POLICE have announced that four off-road bikes that were causing a nuisance around Bolton have been seized- and crushed.

Over the last few weeks, officers from Greater Manchester Police's Bolton West neighbourhood team seized the bikes following reports from residents in the area.

Police said that the action "could not have been done without information the community have provided", before adding their thanks to locals.

Many of the seizures are followed by court appearances for driving and insurance offences. This can lead to fines, bans and for some offenders, with their own cars and bikes, higher insurance premiums.

While quad bikes, three-wheeled bikes, trail bikes and some other two-wheeled vehicles are built for off-road use, it is against the law to ride them in public parks or on publicly-owned land without permission from the local authority.

As with unlicensed powered vehicles, they can only be used on private roads or land with the road or land-owner’s permission.

Police have asked residents to keep on reporting incidents, saying that they do follow up the calls.

They added that they are keen to hear about ongoing incidents, riders, storage locations.
