THIS Saturday Warrington Wolves should have been playing fierce rivals Wigan Warriors at St James’ Park in Newcastle in the Magic Weekend, the event in which a complete round of Super League matches are played over two days at one venue.

It is the eighth successive round of this year’s competition postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown in the UK, so instead sports editor Mike Parsons is counting down his top 10 favourite moments from past Magic Weekend events.

See if you agree with him as we count down, today we're on number 7, and let us know if there’s any other moments you would have included.

Number 7: Fan-tastic first event

Without having a Wembley or Grand Final to attend as Wire fans since 1990, the first Magic Weekend in Cardiff in 2007 was ‘the big event’ Warrington supporters had been crying out for and they bought into it in a way that other clubs’ followers didn’t.

From bumping into members of the barmy army dressed as superheroes, Scooby Doo, leprechauns, Harry Hill and Darth Vader outside the ground, to the incredible noise 3,000 or so Wire fans made inside the Millennium Stadium before and during the win against Salford, they produced the carnival atmosphere the event needed and made everyone there feel proud to be a Wire.
