A GIRL from Grappenhall has raised more than £1,600 to buy treats for staff at Warrington Hospital by selling 400 of her rainbow creations.

Macy Owen, nine, started with a target of £100 but quickly smashed that – with more and more orders for her hama bead rainbows from the community coming in every day.

She initially got going with the project after making an air freshener for dad Don, who is a key worker. Then, when her nana offered her some money for another one, Macy had a light-bulb moment.

Mum Lindsay, who as a key worker helps with children with autism, said: “I’m super proud of Macy, we didn’t think for one minute that she would be the person [able] to do this. She’s just kept going and going and going.

“From the minute she wakes up to when she goes to bed she just keeps making rainbows – she only stops to have her dinner.”

Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with Warrington South MP Andy Carter even buying one for himself and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as tens of donations from some of the world’s biggest companies.

Coca-cola, Pizza Hut, Heinz, and Cheshire Pizza have all donated supplies or vouchers to Macy’s cause – with some even sending her a gift to say thank you for her initiative.

Warrington Guardian:

Macy’s work is all the more awe-inspiring considering the fact she is usually very shy and reserved, says Lindsay, 43.

She added: “[Macy’s] always been a bit different, so when she decided to do this I was a bit like ‘oh gosh Macy, are you sure?’”

However, Macy has persevered and is on the look-out for even more orders.

If you would like a rainbow, mum Lindsay Owen says to get in touch with her on Facebook.
