A CONWY landmark has become a colourful beacon of hope in honour of NHS heroes and key workers.

The fifth consecutive week of the national 'Clap for Carers' tribute saw Conwy Castle illuminated in rainbow colours for the first time in a awe inspiringdisplay of appreciation.

Organised by Conwy Town Council and CADW, the display also featured the words 'Diolch' - Welsh for 'thank you' - for the celebration which has been expanded to include other key workers such as care staff, delivery drivers and supermarket workers.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of Conwy, cllr Goronwy Edwards, said: "Conwy Town Council have asked CADW if they could light up Conwy Castle walls each evening to show their appreciation to the heroic efforts of the NHS and Key Frontline Workers during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

"We are pleased to announce that CADW have very kindly agreed to light up the Castle each evening. The Mayor of Conwy and Constable of the Castle, cllr Goronwy Edwards would like to thank CADW on behalf of his fellow councillors for arranging this and helping to show support to our amazing NHS and key workers."

The light display joins and increasing amount of tributes in North Wales, such as the Sky Tower in Rhyl, the Jubilee Tower on Moel Famau in Denbighshire and Britannia Bridge on Anglesey - all of which are lit up blue.

Llandudno's Venue Cymru, which is currently a temporary hospital site named the 'Enfys' - 'rainbow' hospital and also features multicolour illuminations in the form of the popular pandemic symbol.
