TEX Evans is home, recovering after his battle with coronavirus and determined everybody knows the debt of gratitude for the NHS.

Evans' wife Sharon confirmed her husband, the former Salford Red Devils and Swinton Lions winger from Warrington, came out of intensive care after battling Covid-19 on April 16.

The 55-year-old ex-Crosfields flyer, renowned for his powerful wing play and blonde locks, started to suffer symptoms in late March and went into hospital earlier this month.

But Sharon, his wife of over 35 years, Tweeted that the former Orford Secondary Modern School pupil had been moved to a recovery ward.

And now he's home and enjoying the sunshine in his back garden.

"I've just got out of hospital after three weeks," Evans said in a homemade video.

"The NHS has brought me back and I'm sat in my back garden.

"Thank you to the NHS.

"One thing I've noticed over the past few weeks is there are a lot of professional people in the NHS and they're all acting as a team.

"I played rugby at a high level and they're playing at a lot higher than I ever did.

"So I'd just like people, because there's no rugby or football at the moment, to support the NHS.

"And let's make them the best team in the world.

"I love you, the NHS."

It had been a heartbreaking 2020 so far for the Evans family, as Tex and Sharon's 37-year-old son Jamie, a former rugby league player and coach at Bank Quay Bulls and Rylands, died suddenly on January 16.

Tex had three seasons at Swinton from 1985/86 to 1988/89, before moving to Salford and completing 10 years as a professional.

Since it was first announced on April 7 that Tex was in hospital battling the virus, the rugby league family have been leaving tributes and messages of hope across social media for the popular character from Orford, known to some of his friends as 'Disco'.
