THE value of the sales of police vehicles in Cheshire totalled more than half-a-million pounds in five years, the Warrington Guardian can reveal.

A Freedom of Information request has shown that since 2015, £523,214 has been raised from selling off old fleet vehicles – an average of £104,642 per annum.

A spokesperson for the Cheshire Constabulary said that all of the money raised from sales goes back into the general police budget.

In total 416 vehicles have been offloaded, which equates to 12% of the entire Cheshire police fleet.

The force says that vehicles are only sold once its replacement has been delivered, so officers are not left with a shortfall in vehicles.

The 2018/19 year saw the highest income for sales – £148,987 was raised from selling 106 machines.

However, the following year actually saw the highest number of vehicles being sold with 112 – turning in £114,619.

The figures in both of those years mean just over 15% of the fleet was replaced. Cheshire police typically hold just under 700 vehicles in their fleet at any one time.
