MOTORWAYS around Warrington are almost empty this Easter weekend as residents listen to advice and stay at home.

Both the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct and the M62 at Warrington show very few vehicles on the roads in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

This follows news that Cheshire Police would be setting up checkpoints on key roads to ensure that lockdown measures are not being flouted.

Patrols will be in place on routes including the M6, M56, A49, A50, A55 and A540 over the Easter bank holiday.

Warrington Guardian:

Yesterday, Thursday, the Government announced that it would be keeping the lockdown measures in place.

With Boris Johnson still in hospital with the virus, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab chaired a COBRA meeting to assess the lockdown.

He said the Government will be 'guided by the science' and it won't be until the end of next week that another review on current measures will be given.
