A WARRINGTON councillor has missed his 150th blood donation, and is calling for new blood donors to volunteer, as coronavirus takes its toll.

Cllr Steve Parish (LAB – Chapelford and Old Hall) was due to donate this week but he turned 70 last year and has been told his appointment has been cancelled.

“The age restriction means I cannot give for the time being,” said Cllr Parish, “even though my blood group is quite rare and the Blood Service is way down on donations.

"Having given regularly since I was 18, it would have been my 150th donation.”

There are permanent donor centres in Manchester and Liverpool, and mobile sessions in and around Warrington. Travel to give blood is classed as essential.
