PLANS have been drawn up to demolish a former club and build 10 homes in its place.

Proposals have been submitted seeking permission to bulldoze the former Haydock Catholic Club (also known as The Club) on Church Road, Haydock and create homes at the site.

Plans were submitted to the council by applicant Paul Bond in March.

The former club, until its closure, operated as a licensed entertainment venue.

Plans seek permission to build three terraced houses, six semi-detached houses and one detached property, along with private driveways, gardens, associated parking and informal landscaping.

A design and access statement, drawn up by planning consultants Lawrenson Associates, says: "The applicant considers that the proposed development will provide a good example in the re-use of previously developed land, which will contribute towards the Borough housing stock without harming local residential amenity or highway safety.

"In particular the houses will be classed as affordable housing. Care has been taken to ensure this development reflects its position in the locality, along with the existing residential arrangements on all sides of the site."

It added: "As such, the applicant feels that there are no material planning reasons why this application should not be approved, subject to any reasonable conditions associated with this type of development."

Plans are up for public consultation until Monday, April 20.
