RESIDENTS at Reeve Court Retirement Village are "disgusted" after entertainment by performers to keep their hopes up while in isolation has been cancelled due to continuous sound complaints.

The Government informed the country amid this pandemic that elderly and vulnerable people were to self isolate to protect themselves from contracting the virus.

This has left many of the village's residents alone.

In a bid to cheer them up, Reeve Court bosseshave been organising for singers, fitness classes and more to be performed on the gardens, so residents can watch and take part in these every afternoon at a set time from their balconies.

However ,today the village announced that the musical performances must to cancelled going forward due to continuous complaints.

The statement reads: "I know all of our residents were excited to watch Gary from their balconies this afternoon.

"Unfortunately due to one individual from the neighbouring estate complaining about noise we have no other option than to cancel this afternoons event.

"This message is being delivered with sadness as our aim was to lift the morale among a set of very worried people who fall into the vulnerable category during this pandemic.

"Our residents are currently isolating in small apartments and their mental well being is important hence the reason for our entertainment.

"We will resume our entertainment tomorrow with balcony yoga but future events will not have any singing or music."

Resident Margaret Sutherland, 71, said: "These performances only run for 30 mins four times so all the residents can see from the four gardens, and it is in the middle of the day from noon, so with everything happening I'm disgusted there has been so many complaints.

"I am on my own, I'm seeing no one, but it was good to take part in the events and listen to the music.

"It's nice for our families too to see we are not totally alone, but this is horrendous now its being cancelled.

"We are all over 60, and most of us alone, surely two hours from their day in the nearby estate isn't much when we cant even go out.

"It's disgusting."

This sentiment was echoed by fellow resident Jacqueline Baker, 74, who added: "I've been a resident here for 14 years and at the moment we can't go out so the entertainment has been lovely.

"We had singers doing lovely songs so everyone could hear but now that's all gone because of one person complaining.

"When I heard that I was disgusted, it's a time to help each other but now we will not have that anymore.

"It's really sad in this day and age, because they must have reported us a lot for them to cancel it."
