THE frontman of Sutton indie rock band Stillia has been out delivering food parcels - and songs - to elderly and vulnerable residents in isolation during the coronavirus lockdown.

Last week we reported how the owner of The Eccleston Arms, Andy Mikhail, had turned the hotel part of the venue into a shop for the NHS and that he was organising food deliveries for the elderly and vulnerable in the community.

St Helens Star:

Since then, The Steve Prescott Foundation have got involved to help Mikhail, who is an ambassador of the foundation, and had brought in the likes of Johnny Vegas and the players from Blackbrook Rugby Club to help bring a smile and food deliveries to residents.

Jack Bennett, the frontman of Stillia, has also got in on the action, delivering food and a Beatles song to a man on isolation.

Jack, 22, said: "St Helens is a proper community, we always come together to help in a crisis, so when I saw what Martin was doing I decided to get involved.

"I was apprehensive at first thought because I'm used to performing to a few people, not just one, but after we dropped off the food, I performed a Beatles song and he seemed to really like it.

"We not only delivered food but brought a smile to people - at a safe distance."

Jack and his brother Matty Bennett, the drummer in Stillia, also put on a special Facebook performance to highlight the Star's JustGiving page raising money specifically for Whiston and St Helens Hospital's Charity - to directly thank our NHS heroes.

Jack added: "All of us have had family looked after by those hospitals, we wanted to give something back and when the Star were doing something we decided to get involved with that too.

"It's just about doing as much as we can, safely, for our community.

"It doesn't get much better than the St Helens community, and we need to look after each other."
