A MAN has been arrested following a stand-off with police on the Runcorn Widnes Bridge.

Firefighters were called to rescue the 33-year-old from the Silver Jubilee Bridge yesterday evening, Tuesday.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, as well as an allegation of assault in relation to a previous incident.

The man remains in custody today, Wednesday.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 5.30pm on Tuesday, police officers and firefighters were in attendance at the Silver Jubilee Bridge between Runcorn and Widnes following concerns for the welfare of a man.

"Following discussions with the man he voluntarily came to a safe place."

Crews from Lymm Fire Station helped to bring the man down to safety.
