A NEW travellers’ site is set to be created in Burtonwood.

The development is planned for the former timber yard on Penkford Lane, with an application for planning permission having been submitted to Warrington Borough Council by St Helens-based Mat Design.

Two static caravans and two trailers would be housed on the 148sq m plot, which is located near to the junction with Pennington Lane.

Proposals also involve the demolition of buildings currently on the site and the construction of a day room.

Warrington Guardian:

Planning application documents state: “It is understood that this site has a long standing commercial use, which also included significant elements of outside storage whilst the main site building was used for joinery and fabrication processes.

“Whist this use is dormant, neither the site nor the buildings have blended into the landscape.

“The proposed development would involve the cessation of the commercial use of the site, along with the removal of site buildings.

“Following the demolition of the site buildings, two static caravans, two touring caravans and a day room would be pitched on the site.

“It is clear that the impact from the proposed development of the site would not have a greater impact on the openness of the green belt than the existing development.

“The proposed pitches and day room, when viewed in its local context, would mean that the visual perception of the proposed dwelling would impact less on its local setting given the reduction in built volume and footprint.

“There are no highway safety problems, nor would there be any demonstrable harm to local or residential amenity.”
