TRANSITION Wilmslow brought in volunteers of all ages to plant trees on Bank House Farm on the Quarry Bank estate for the National Trust.
Ranging in age from three to well over 70, 50 volunteers worked to plant 1,200 trees as part of the work the Trust is doing to transform overgrazed grassland into a much richer habitat for the future.
Andrew Backhouse, chairman of Transition Wilmslow, said: “Some worked all day, while some came for the morning or the afternoon. One came to celebrate her 40th birthday, and one grandparent brought a grandchild who was desperate to turn her concern about climate change into practical action.
“It was particularly good to get several new volunteers from St Benedict’s School in Handforth and Wilmslow Academy. The feedback from the participants was really positive. So many enjoyed it, and it was wonderful to get the community together to work for the common good.”
