FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a town centre supermarket after a freezer caught fire yesterday evening, Sunday.

Two fire engines from Winsford and Middlewich fire stations were dispatched to Iceland on Witton Street shortly after 9.30pm.

On arrival, the crews discovered that the fire involved a freezer.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

The electricity supply to the commercial property was also isolated.

The freezer was moved outside of the building to be examined, while a large fan was used to ventilate the area.

A thermal imagine camera was then used to check for any hotspots.

Crews were detained at the scene for around two hours.
