An endometriosis campaigner is bringing her crazy charity challenge to the Lake District.

Andrea Mason, 38, is looking to push the limits of the human body this summer by attempting a world record by swimming the three longest lakes in Wales, England and Scotland, running the three highest peaks and cycling between all three in a period of just five days.

The 'Sea to Summit Extreme 2020 – Lakes Edition’ challenge will take place between August 17 and 21, starting at Lake Bala in Wales and finishing on the peak of Ben Nevis in Scotland, whilst traversing all three countries along the way.

Mason’s desire to take on another epic challenge comes from her mission to raise awareness about endometriosis– a gynecological condition which is as common as diabetes, but still relatively unknown.

In 2017 Mason was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and cervical cancer, resulting in major surgery to save her life. Like many women, it took her years to get an endometriosis diagnosis and after missing several smear tests, Mason is now on a mission to encourage women worldwide to attend or organise their smear tests.

“After so many years of pain followed by major surgery and a cancer diagnosis, educating young women and helping to remove the taboo surrounding women’s health problems is my driving force” said Mason. “I want to continue building the Sea to Summit platform to help educate young women and inspire people to ‘create their own epic’.”

For the Cumbrian leg of her challenge, Mason will cycle to Windermere from Snowdonia, Wales, swim the length of the mere, cycle to Scafell, before running up to the top.
