A deluge of water overnight has flooded a primary school near Builth Wells.

Classroom furniture at Llanelwedd Primary School is "now totally submerged", said the school's headteacher.

Adam Shearman said on Facebook that the water is still rising and that he is unable to get into the classrooms.

Flood water at the school, which is located near the Royal Welsh Showground, is above table height.

Mr Shearman added that waves from passing vehicles are making floods worse at the school.

"Llanelwedd is flooded. Please take care in the flood water", Mr Shearman said. "Please go through slowly the waves being sent through are making Llanelwedd School floods worse."

Storm Dennis brought flooding disruption to many parts of the county at the weekend, with roads closed and rail services cancelled, while residents in south Powys were warned the situation was “life-threatening”.
