A COOKBOOK author from Walton is proving anyone can make restaurant-style curry at home as he inspires the nation with his latest recipes.

Richard Sayce (Misty Ricardo’s Curry Kitchen) is an independent publisher of his own Indian cookbooks, selling thousands of copies to budding home cooks.

The 51-year-old published Indian Restaurant Curry at Home Volume One in May 2018, with Volume Two following last year.

Both have won the Gourmand World Cookbook award for the best UK self-published cookbook and come with a whole host of five-star reviews.

Richard said: “I’ve spent a lot of time marketing my books and videos on social media.

“It’s proven especially popular on Facebook, I have a large following, and the word of mouth recommendations I’ve received have been invaluable.”

Warrington Guardian:

Richard’s success grew from his love of Indian cooking and experimenting with flavours and recipes.

He explained: “It was mainly through the internet.

“It’s about experimenting and really putting pieces of the jigsaw together.”

Richard began making video tutorials and uploading them to YouTube, where he has since achieved more than 26,000 subscribers and glowing feedback.

He said it is always positive to hear how people who have never cooked before have managed to make their own curries thanks to his recipes.

He added: “People come back to me on social media with photos of what they have made.”

Richard has come a long way from distributing his books from his own home and has since secured a distribution deal and has his space back.

Despite the challenges, he said he wouldn’t change his independent approach.

Richard explained: “It’s been more hard work than I thought but it has been worth it because I’ve done it myself.”

Warrington Guardian:

Richard will be signing copies of his books in Waterstones at Golden Square Shopping Centre on Saturday between 12pm and 3pm.

He will be signing and personalising copies of both volumes for customers who wish to buy them, as well as providing samples of his food featured across both volumes.

The first book shows people the fundamentals and proper techniques to cooking curry at home.

The second volumes develops this with new recipes to try and special additional chapters.

Both books are available from all good book sellers.
