For many years, Builth Wells Rugby Club has not had a scoreboard for live updates during a match at The Groe.

To solve the problem for Home and Away fans, a fundraising campaign was formed and it has taken 15 months to reach the target of £645 to buy a brand new scoreboard.

Twenty-nine donors have since contributed to the fundraising which has now reached £700.

Locals have been sharing their stories on the fundraising website GoFundMe about why they have donated to the cause.

Olive Rowe wrote: “My mother, Hazel Richards, spent many an afternoon watching the rugby from an apartment overlooking the Groe with Edna Richards, a very good friend. The scoreboard would have been very useful to them! In later years Mum and many residents of Brynhyfryd were treated to fish and chips by the rugby club in Builth and I am very grateful. Good luck and reach your goal soon.”

Dan Lawrence said: “I want to give a little something back to my hometown.”

While Robert Lennard added: “Builth Wells RFC set me on my path for a fantastic Rugby career (both codes). My small donation is just to say thanks.”
