Police have charged a woman with the murder of Alison McBlain.

On Monday evening, officers charged Karis Poynton, 27, of Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, with the murder of the mother-of-one from Blackburn.

Poynton was also charged with the attempted murder of a 26-year-old man.

She is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Poynton was arrested on Monday morning along with two other people.

A 62-year-old man was taken into custody on two counts of suspicion of conspiracy to murder but has since been released on bail until February 25.

A 25-year-old man was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender and arson, but he has since been released without charge.

Ms McBlain, 36, sadly died in hospital on November 21 after being hit by a car on King Street/Whalley Banks at the junction with Pearson Street around 7.45pm on November 19.

Detectives believe a car - a Fiat Punto Grande - mounted the pavement before colliding with Ms McBlain and the 26-year-old man, who sustained serious injuries.

Four other people have already been charged in connection with Ms McBlaine’s death.
