A FLOOD alert has been issued along the Mersey in Warrington.
Higher than usual tides are expected along the river at Fiddlers Ferry, Arpley Bridge and Eastford Road in Lower Walton this afternoon, Tuesday.
Water levels are expected to peak at around 3.30pm, causing a possibility of flooding on low-lying land and roads in the affected areas.
Parts of town affected by the alert include Latchford, Great Sankey, Woolston, Howley, Sankey Bridges, Westy, Paddington and Centre Park.
No flood alert is anticipated for the high tide at midnight, but a further warning could be put in place for midday tomorrow, Wednesday.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation, and avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses.”
