CCTV has captured the moment that a man armed with a weapon attempted to force his way into a pensioner’s home.

The house on Webb Drive in Burtonwood was targeted during the attempted break-in in the early hours of Sunday, January 5.

Footage shows a man entering the front garden through a gate and approaching the front door, before walking away and then returning to the entrance.

He later flees the scene down a pathway in the direction of Chapel Lane.

Residents told the Warrington Guardian that the suspect had attempted to force his way into the home using a weapon, damaging the front door.

But the ‘frightened’ 86-year-old homeowner disturbed him, causing the wannabee burglar to flee.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Officers were called at around 1.10am on Sunday, January 5, after an unknown man attempted to gain entry to an address in the Webb Drive area of Burtonwood.

“The man was disturbed and made off towards the direction of Chapel Lane.
