POLICE have confirmed that gunshots were fired on the Carrington Park estate yesterday morning in a ‘targeted shooting’.
A grey Audi stopped on Monks Place, off Rylands Drive, shortly after 9am on Saturday.
Two men wearing yellow high-vis jackets got out of the car, with one seen to fire a number of shots.
Both men then got back into the vehicle and drove away.
Cheshire Police has confirmed that no injuries were suffered as a result of the incident, and that its enquiries are ongoing.
Superintendent Gareth Lee said: “We understand that incidents of this nature are concerning, and I would like to reassure the public that we are doing all that we can to establish exactly what has taken place.
“At this time, we believe that this is a targeted incident and there is no risk to the wider community.
“As part of our enquiries were keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information which may aid our investigation.
“The same goes for anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are, or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or leaving the scene.
“Patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance and I urge anyone with any concerns is urged to speak to an officer.”
A huge police presence descended on Orford after the firearm was discharged, with a large area surrounding the children’s play area on Monks Place cordoned off.
Officers were also spotted along Orford Lane in the vicinity of both Leonard Street and Laira Street, with a car being torched in Back Forshaw Street.

Firefighters spent an hour tackling the blaze, with one engine sent to the scene.
It is not yet clear whether the burnt-out car is linked to the shooting.
One resident told the Warrington Guardian that five shots were fired on Monks Place, but that none had hit the intended target.
Police remain on the scene this morning, Sunday.
Armed police attended the scene, while the force helicopter was also seen hovering over the area for around an hour.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML609602, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
