WHEN Nicola Brown felt herself go into labour, she never expected to give birth in the back of a car almost three weeks early.

On a normal Thursday morning in September, the mum-of-one suddenly realised she was in labour with her second child.

As planned, she and her partner, Adam Plumb, called her mum who was due to take care of their son Tyler while she gave birth.

Adam's mum, Maria Norris, came round to take Nicola to the hospital but it was at this point Nicola felt the sudden urge to push and she realised the baby was not planning to wait.

Nicola, aged 28, said: "As we were getting everything ready to go for the hospital, I felt the urge to push.

"I live in an upstairs flat in Birchwood, so my partner managed to get me down the stairs.

"As I got to Adam's mum's car, my waters burst."

Adam and Maria managed to get Nicola into the back of the car but as they approached the roundabout near to Birchwood Fire Station on Ordnance Avenue, she knew her son was planning a speedy exit.

Maria gave her son the orders to pull the car over and he managed to get to the BP garage roundabout where he parked up.

Nicola said: "My partner jumped out of the car to get somebody to call an ambulance where a lovely lady who works for Dial a Dog Wash pulled over.

"She called the paramedics but at this point, Adam realised it was too late."

Maria had already delivered the baby boy on the backseat of the car.

The lady from Dial a Dog Wash then called the maternity ward at Warrington Hospital to let them know that Nicola and her newborn were on the way and that she had given birth in the car.

A group of nurses met the family who arrived at Warrington Hospital a short time later and Nicola was taken to a delivery suite in a wheelchair to deliver her placenta.

The family was back home in Birchwood by 4pm the same day with their new addition, Riley Adam Plumb, weighing a healthy 6lb 3oz.
