PADDINGTON Post Office is set to close and residents can have their say on its new location.

The branch at Holes Lane, Woolston, is scheduled to close at 5.30 on Thursday, following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for post office use.

A new post office will open at 1pm on February 24, just 500 metres away in Manchester Road.

Although the decision to move the branch has already been confirmed, the post office is inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

Steve Northey, Post Office change manager said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs."

The new post office will have an open-plan till at the shop counter instead of a separate screened counter.

It will also offer longer opening hours seven days a week, from 5:30am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, and 6am to 4pm on Sunday.

Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 210434.

The consultation will close on January 23.

Submissions can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.
