FIREFIGHTERS have battled an out-of-control blaze on Portland.
A large out of control bonfire saw a crew from the island's fire station joined by a second team from Weymouth.
The Weymouth crew brought with them an aerial ladder platform to help tackle the flames.
The incident happened at Grove Road today. Firefighters used one main line and a hay rake to extinguish the fire.
Pictures taken by the fire service show charred household appliances and debris being doused by firefighters.
A spokesman for Portland Fire Station said: "Incidents such as this one just show how critical it is to have on call fire fighters able to respond during working hours, this fire could quite easily have spread.
"If you are an employee or employer on Portland and could respond to emergencies during hours between 7am and 5pm, Portland fire station needs you."
You can apply via the DWFireRescue website or contact Portland station officers via the Portland Fire Station Facebook page for more information.
