SHOPPERS heading for Tesco yesterday were witnesses to what some are calling 'Warrington's best proposal'.

More than 370,000 people have so far watched the clip of Mike Ogden, 48, proposing to his girlfriend Gaynor Marshall, 45.

After buying and moving into their own home in Orford six weeks ago, Mike, said: “I thought, in the words of Beyoncé, I'd better put a ring on it!"

Colleagues can be seen guiding Gaynor, a Tesco employee, out of the store to find Mike stood on top of a van belting out Stone Roses track Sally Cinnamon.

Mike said: “We’ve been together a couple of years now.

“We moved in together first and we’ve just moved into a house we bought about six weeks ago.

“When we first moved it was quite a stressful thing.

“On the radio one day, the Stone Roses song came on and I sang it to Gaynor, and it cheered her up, so I started to sing it when she’s having a bad day."

Mike decided to use the song to propose and can be seen peforming to Gaynor who says, "You're off your head!"

After he's finished the song, Mike can be heard saying, "Hang on stay there.  I've got something to ask you."

With a huge bouquet of flowers in his hand, he gets down on one knee and says: "You're my world. You make me the happiest man in the world, will you marry me?"

Gaynor replied, 'You know I will' before applause and cheers rang out from the crowd who had gathered to watch.

The couple do not have any concrete plans for their wedding, but Mike says it will not be as extravagant as the proposal.

He added: “We’re not into fuss as such- we just said we’d go away on a beach just me and her- just us doing our thing.

“The comments on Facebook have been absolutely lovely and it’s making it so special for Gaynor.

“That’s why I made such a fuss because the actual wedding is going to be quite low key.

“I didn’t think it would go so crazy- we just plod along in our own little bubble.”

The happy moment has since been posted on Facebook by Ian Hawkins.

The video has been shared more than 4,000 times and had more than 2,000 comments.
