A WOMAN is being treated by paramedics after being rescued from the Manchester Ship Canal this lunchtime, Tuesday.

A police spokesman said a woman was spotted in the water close to the Cantilever Bridge.

Police, the fire service and ambulance were called at around 12.25pm but the spokesman said the woman was pulled to safety by 1.10pm

Firefighters from Warrington, Lymm, Widnes, and Stockton Heath attended the scene along with the aerial platform from Lymm and the fire service rescue boat from Warrington.

They used a rope rescue kit to secure the woman and lifted her out of the water.

She was then placed onto the fire service rescue boat and taken further down the canal where crews lifted her out.

Fairfield Road and Fairfield Gardens in Stockton Heath were closed while emergency services responded.
