IAN Brown is to play a huge homecoming show to 25,000 revellers when he headlines Neighbourhood Weekender at Victoria Park on Saturday, May 23.

The Stone Roses frontman, who grew up in Forster Street and now lives in Lymm, will be returning to Warrington for his first major solo headline performance in almost a decade.

He is coming back to the stage after releasing his self-produced top five album, Ripples, earlier this year. The announcement also marks four years since the Stone Roses took over Manchester’s Etihad Stadium for four nights.

Ian's last solo appearance in the town was in October 2007 at the Parr Hall when, to mark the occasion, he wore a Warrington Wolves shirt for much of the show.

The Stone Roses also famously played their first reunion gig at the same venue in 2012.

Meanwhile, Catfish And The Bottlemen will be headlining the second day of the Latchford festival, held over three stages.

The indie giants will be closing Neighbourhood Weekender on Sunday, May 24, following a major sold-out arena tour, global festival appearances and new album The Balance.

Warrington music fans may also remember the band playing at Friars Court in 2012 and 2013 before their breakthrough as well as doing an acoustic set at Head (now HMV) for Record Store Day in 2014.

Other main artists on the line-up include Sam Fender, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, Shed Seven, Miles Kane, The Coral, Tom Walker, Sundara Karma, Reverend and the Makers and Pale Waves.

And Warrington residents will, again, be the first to bag tickets with an exclusive pre-sale which launches on Wednesday.

The Neighbourhood Weekender team, headed up by former Woolston High student Jack Dowling, will be welcoming back The Sherlocks, The Magic Gang and The Big Moon following their 'exceptional performances' at this year's event.

The first wave of artists also includes Sea Girls, Fickle Friends and The Orielles while organisers have promised the festival will be 'the place to find the best new indie acts' with the likes of The Murder Capital, Inhaler, Sports Team, The Lathums and Working Men’s Club added to the bill after making waves in recent months.
