Magician Chris Cross doesn’t quite perform ‘by Royal Approval’ - but he comes close to it.

Chris has presented magic and cabaret shows for many years in Newcastle, he has performed with an superstar David Blaine and tricked Prince Charles on his visit to Northumberland in 2012.

“I did some card tricks for him which I’ll be performing in my show,” he says.

“He enjoyed it, but he was baffled.”

Chris will be revealing his royal tricks as well as reviving some classic magic as he visits Cumbria tomorrow on his first tour in 20 years of performing.

His show pays tribute to the great TV magician Paul Daniels and includes some illusions that were last performed by him 40 years ago.

Chris says: “I’ve done runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, but never an actual tour.

“I learned my first trick when I was 10. I’ve been practising 20 years for this tour.

“Some tricks I have been practising for 20 years, while some I’m performing for the first time ever.”

He is performing ‘old school’ sleight of hand and stage tricks, including some invented by Daniels and featuring his original props from the Seventies and Eighties.

Chris says of his show: “It is a proper, old school magic show, there are no tricks with iPads or anything technical. The props are from the Seventies and it is a real heritage show with an added sprinkle of music hall eccentricity.”

Chris stresses that the show is for the whole family and will also feature special guest variety performers.
