WARRINGTON is the luckiest place to live in Cheshire when it comes to winning the National Lottery.

Since the scheme began 25 years ago, 64 people in the town have become millionaires, making the area the fourth luckiest postcode in the UK.

In total, 505 top tier prizes of at least £50,000 have been banked by winners in the WA postcode- more than five big winners every three months.

Among these were John and Patricia Gill from Warrington who won £1m in a Euromillions raffle draw on Christmas Day in 2015.

The couple bought their ticket just an hour before the draw was due to take place and have since been able to give their children the best possible start.

The couple, who have been married for more than 30 years, met other winners from across the north west to mark the 25 year anniversary on Thursday.

As well as people winning huge amounts of money, the National Lottery has raised £40 billion for good causes, with £30 million raised every week to help worthy projects.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor for the National Lottery said: "Warrington really is a very lucky place to live – the luckiest town in Cheshire!

"With more than two millionaires being made in the town every year since the National Lottery began, that’s pretty good going.

"I would say this town is definitely a lucky place to be!

"Over the last 25 years, the National Lottery has been making amazing things happen.

"Thanks to our National Lottery players, 565,000 Good Cause grants have been given out to projects big and small- that’s the equivalent of 200 life-changing projects in every UK postcode district making a huge impact on communities all over the country.

"On top of this, we have celebrated so many lucky winners who have won life-changing sums of money – here’s to another 25 years of making dreams come true."
