HELEN Jones shocked the political world in Warrington on Wednesday when she announced she will not be standing in the General Election next month.

She has been MP in Warrington North since 1997 but said that at the end of the next Parliament she will be 70 and it would be time to retire.

She is not on her own though as dozens of MPs have said they will not be seeking re-election at the December 12 poll.
