CHILDREN are remembering the soldiers who died while serving at the RAF Burtonwood Airbase.

Callands Primary School pupils have created a wreath for each of the 15 soldiers which will be taken to their graves to mark Remembrance Sunday next month.

RAF Burtonwood was built specifically for the Second World War and its legacy is still upheld by members of the Burtonwood Heritage Centre.

Each class, from reception to year six, was assigned a soldier who served at the site and they spent time creating poems, researching the soldier and reflecting through art.

They created wreaths for John H Gallman, George Waltari, William J Nelson, Harry A Devitt, William E Davis, Charles P Ingram, Cecil R Steele, John E Barnby, Richard Cardozo, Stanley L Broughton, Clifford J Collins, Frederic A Borsodi, Frederick Jay Simpson, John H Schmidt and Arthur M Dover.

The wreaths will be taken to Cambridge to be placed on the graves of the soldiers on Remembrance Day.
