WIRRAL youngsters have built libraries of the future with Lego as part of National Libraries Week.

Members from Wirral Libraries' Lego Clubs took part in the 'Build the library of the Future' competition run by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).

It's hoped that the competition will get youngsters creative with Lego and to show how they think libraries could look in 2020 and beyond.

Friends' groups at Birkenhead Central and West Kirby Libraries also sponsored their own competition, offering a £20 Lego voucher for the winning build.

The Lego clubs are also looking for more members, with places available at Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, Bebington and West Kirby Libraries and what's better is that each club is free to attend.

Wirral's Lego Clubs:

  • Rock Ferry Library: 11am to 12pm weekly
  • Birkenhead Central Library: 2pm to 3pm fortnightly (next one is 2 November, 19 October is cancelled due to building works)
  • Bebington Central Library: 2.30pm to 3.30pm monthly (next one is 19 October)
  • West Kirby Library: 2.30pm to 3.30pm fortnightly (next one is 19 October)
  • Friends Group of Bromborough Library: 10.30am (next one is 19 October)

Some clubs will have themes for each session while other clubs allow free building. There are also plenty of Lego idea books available for youngsters who want some inspiration.

For the national competition, entries from each Lego club were tweeted on Saturday, October 5 via the Wirral Libraries Twitter account, and a winner was selected for each local library competition.

Also as part of National Libraries Week from October 7 to October 12, Wirral Libraries held an e-library session in the Pyramids Shopping centre to showcase what's on offer for residents, including e-books, e-audio and e-magazines - all available for free with a Wirral library card.
