Avoid Halloween and half term with the kids becoming a time of terror with our quick guide to events in Warrington and a little further afield

KENYON HALL FARM, CROFT

Warrington Guardian:

For many, it would not be October without a visit to Kenyon Hall Farm.

There will be a 'parade' of pumpkins to choose from until Halloween or while stocks last. costing between £2 and £10.

Entry to the farm and pumpkin display areas are free, and there's no need to book – just turn up.

But those coming during half terms are advised to come before 10am or after 3pm due to the car park quickly filling up.

Entry to the carving area costs £3 per pumpkin and includes carving equipment and help with designs.

SPOOKY WORLD

Mention Spooky World and you probably think of the 'Pig Men' of the Slaughterhouse and its other chilling attractions for horror fans.

But by day the Spooky World team offer up family friendly Halloween events for kids aged between four and 11.

There will be costumed characters but no scare actors – so it is more treat than trick.

Other attractions include inflatable drop slides, archery, the corn cannon, a hay bale hill, a spooky tractor trailer ride, a mini digger, ziplines and a ball dropper.

GRANGE FARM, LOWTON

Warrington Guardian:

Pumpkin picking has begun this weekend at Grange Farm. But the team advise that the best time to visit is between October 21 and 27 when there will be a host of activities.

Halloween characters will be lurking about and there will be pumpkin carving workshops alongside fairground rides and Halloween themed food.

WHITE MOSS GARDEN CENTRE, WIDNES

Get creative in the warmth of the garden centre's pumpkin hut which is free to enter. Simply pay for the pumpkin you choose and then you can carve it on site or take it away.

Halloween sweets are available and a face painter will be in all day every Saturday.

THE HAYLOFT

The Hayloft has a host of family and Halloween events running from October 19 to 31.

You can pick a pumpkin and make your masterpiece in the carving shed, get creeped out at witches' story time, take on the spooky maze or go for a ride on the tractor or miniature railway.

For older kids there is 'Cirque Psychotique' suitable for those aged 12 and over. The scary story about a travelling circus involves visitors joining performers on a walk through the maize maze at night.

WARRINGTON MARKET'S TRICK OR GEEK

Warrington Guardian:

A special 'geeky market' for the Halloween season with stalls selling Toys, collectables, artwork as well as seasonal and magical items.

It runs at Saturday, October 26, between 10am and 4pm.

WALTON HALL AND GARDENS

There are no special events at Walton Hall over half term but the extra family time might be a good excuse to rediscover what is often described as the jewel in Warrington's crown.

As well as having a large playground, the site has one of the last remaining council-run children’s zoos with alpacas, donkeys, potbellied pigs, African pygmy goats, red squirrels, peacocks and much more.

You can also check out the conservatories that have reopened following a £120,000 refurbishment or have a game at the newly refurbished Adventure Golf.

For a special experience at Walton, you can go on an alpaca walk for £25 on October 26 when you can walk Jim, Topaz and Mally around the park for an hour.

PANTO OF THE DEAD

Warrington Guardian:

This family-friendly Halloween production on October 27 is inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead holiday.

Featuring featuring pop songs, magic and puppets, follow JoJo as she searches for the book of the dead to free her family from the clutches of the evil VooDoo Doctor.

BENTS' SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

With a magical children’s meal and fancy dress, the next generation of sorcerers at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will learn how to make potions and cast spells, as well brushing up on their wand technique and taking part in a Quidditch class. Classes will be running on October 22 and 29 between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Pumpkin painting also returns with workshops between 9am and 9.45am and 10.15am and 11am on October 24, 25, 28 and 29.

Other gory ingredients being thrown into the mix for some special Halloween fun include fearsome face painting, with transformations being made on the Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the half term holidays and a scarecrow treasure hunt.

FURRY FRIENDS HALLOWEEN DOG WALK

The Walton Arms 'dog friendly' pub will be leading a charity dog walk in aid of Warrington Animal Welfare on October 26.

The walk is an accessible 1.5 mile route but make sure you have got your wellies and raincoats on standby. 

On arrival back at the pub there will be tea and coffee included.

Registration is at 1.30pm (£5 per dog, with all proceeds going to WAW and includes a your hot drink after the walk).

The walk starts from 2.00pm from the Walton Arms Car Park and there will be a prize for the best dressed dog as well as a tombola, raffle and pop-up pet shop.
