STOCKTON Heath Primary School’s playground is starting to transform thanks to £40,000 raised by the PTA.

Phase one of their playground is now complete, including a shelter, tunnel mound and play equipment, some of which is modelled on the Stockton Heath swing bridges.

Due to the school’s proximity to both the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, the overall theme of water and ‘The Mersey River Corridor’ was included in the design and now forms part of the new playground markings.

One member of the PTA, Marianne Atherton, was particularly instrumental in the project, helping to draft designs which included the children’s ideas and work.

This academic year, phase two will begin which includes enhancing the existing forest school area, gravel play and water pumps and channels.

Phase three, a sensory zone is set to be completed by the end of the 2020-21 academic year.

Head teacher, Dan Harding, said: “The start of this amazing three-year development of our playground is testament to our wonderfully committed PTA and the generosity of our parent community who have enabled this project to be totally self-funded.

"I am particularly pleased with how much we managed to involve the children in the design phase.

"They have taken great pride in seeing their ideas come to life."
