PARENTS have raised their concerns about the ventilation system at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub pool and say it is leaving swimmers in a ‘nauseous state’.

In an incident last month, children in the performance level swimming squads experienced breathing problems in the pool.

One dad said: “40 of the swimmers left the pool in a nauseous state with breathing problems caused by the pools ventilation system.

“The staff on reception said they were aware of the problem and were supposed to be getting it fixed.

“I find this concerning for the swimmers involved due to the health risks this is clearly having on them.”

Warrington Borough Council and LiveWire, said: “We have strict checks in place that ensure the conditions in the pool and surrounding areas meet the necessary health and safety standards and function within the recommended guidelines, ensuring that they are safe for use.

“We would like to reassure our customers that the levels recorded on the date in question were all within the required parameters.

“We are, however, aware of concerns raised by customers and we are now taking steps to further improve the pool hall environment.”

The six-lane main pool opened in April this year after a full refurbishment including new filtration systems, full insulation and re-tiling. The training pool was also fully insulated and had its width extended to 7.6 metres.

Major improvements were made to the pool hall, with a new roof, insulation and ventilation system.
