A PAEDOPHILE who was caught with videos of babies being sexually abused has been jailed.

David Brothers, from Chapelford, collected hundreds of indecent images of children over a 10-year period.

Liverpool Crown Court heard this week that Cheshire Police received intelligence of these materials being downloaded from the internet, and traced an IP address back to the defendant’s home.

Officers then raided the property in January 2018.

The 33-year-old was present at the time and arrested, and his Sony laptop was seized.

An analysis of the computer found a total of 755 indecent videos of children, and two pictures.

Brothers, of Rose Creek Gardens, had also downloaded two images showing bestiality and another two computer generated images depicting children abuse.

The contents of two sickening videos were described in court, showing a four-year-old girl and a two-month-old baby being sexually abused.

A mechanic for BT, Brothers confessed to police under interview that he had been downloading the pictures and videos via a peer-to-peer sharing network.

Defence barrister Paul Darnborough told the court that it had been his client’s ‘secret obsession’.

Brothers had begun collecting the indecent materials 10 years ago after suffering a ‘personal crisis’, when he was diagnosed as being HIV positive in 2008.

He admitted three counts of making indecent images, two charges of possession of indecent images and possession of extreme pornographic images during an court hearing.

Mr Darnborough added: “He kept this secret to everyone other than himself, he is wholly remorseful and is appalled by his behaviour.”

Judge David Aubrey jailed Brothers – who was supported in court by his partner – for eight months yesterday, Wednesday.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order for the next 10 years.

The NSPCC has condemned Brothers' actions, which the charity said helped to fuel a demand which sees children suffer 'unimaginable horrors'.

A spokesman said: "Every image in Brothers' repulsive collection represents a vulnerable child who has suffered unimaginable horrors at the hands of an abuser.

"By seeking out these images over the span a decade, Brothers created demand for an untold number of victims.

"If he is, as his defence suggested, appalled by his own behaviour we trust he will use his time in prison to seek appropriate treatment to reduce the risk of reoffending in future."
