WARRINGTON ranked number 183 out of 353 local authorities in England for household waste sent for recycling in 2017-18.

Figures from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs have revealed household waste recycling rates across the country.

Furthermore, a recycling rate map has been produced by waste experts InSinkEratorhas to raise awareness of the need to encourage it, if councils are to hit the target rate of 50 per cent by 2020.

The figures show Warrington had a 42.8 per cent rate for household waste sent for recycling in 2017-18.

This ranks it number 183 out of 353 local authorities in England – and number 19 out of 43 in the north west.

And the town had 415kg of household waste per person in 2017-18, which ranks it number 262 out of 353.

The council has responded to the figures.

A spokesman said: “Our recycling rate target for 2019-20 is 50 per cent, which mirrors the current national target for 2020.

“We are continuing to work proactively with residents, businesses and our waste partners to achieve this target.”
