A CARE worker who abused young boys he was meant to be looking after, the directors of a dodgy car dealership and a conman who posed as a police officer were among the Warrington criminals brought to justice in September.

Every month, the Warrington Guardian takes a look back at some of the court cases that have been featured in the paper in the weeks previously.

Other defendants appearing in September included a fraudster who used stolen bank cards to buy McDonald's, a dad who tore a policeman's bicep in a bid to avoid being arrested and a member of a notorious drugs gang.

CRIME: 13 counts of sexual assault

The serial paedophile groomed vulnerable boys in care homes with trips to Manchester United's training ground in the 1970s and 80s.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "These were the actions of a sexual predator, I can't imagine a greater breach of trust of a person who was in a position of such responsibility."

SENTENCE: 15 years in prison

CRIME: Fraudulent trading and unfair commercial practices

Alongside co-defendants William Drinkwater, Dominic Jones and Matthew Amery, Coulton ran a dodgy car company which threated customers with having their legs broken if they complained.

SENTENCE: 15-month imprisonment suspended for 18 months

He tried to delete photographs of young children as police raided his home.

CRIME: Fraud

The prolific conman posed as a police officers and a solicitor in order to defraud mums, who were put at risk of losing custody of their children, out of around £8,000.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "You are an imbued dishonest fraudster who has been committing these kind of offences for a long time."

SENTENCE: Four years in prison

CRIME: Public order offences and assaulting an emergency services worker

The dad tore a police officer's bicep in a bid to avoid arrest during a night out in Warrington town centre.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "You got yourself rotten drunk and behaved in a way that is wholly inconsistent with the view your family will have about you."

SENTENCE: 10-month imprisonment suspended for two years

CRIME: Five counts of fraud, three of theft and two charges of attempted theft

The serial fraudster broke into cars and stole bank cards before using them to buy McDonald's food.

A member of Jamie Oldroyd's notorious drugs gang, Lewin acted as a link transporting cocaine between Warrington and Scunthorpe.

CRIME: Dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, possession of a knuckleduster and possession of cocaine

Abbey led police on a 65mph chase through Lymm while high on cocaine.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "If someone had been driving the other way on the underpass, they wouldn't have stood a chance."

SENTENCE: Banned from driving for two years

CRIME: Conspiracy to supply class B drugs

Tudor and co-defendant Ionut Tulei were given big discounts on cannabis for agreeing to sell it on the streets.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "You both need to change your lifestyles."

SENTENCE: Eight-month imprisonment suspended for 18 months

CRIME: Breaching planning enforcement notices

He was in breach of three notices, including living on the land of Caddicks Clematis Nursery- which he was director of.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: "What Mr Clayton needs to stop doing is putting the cart before the horse and having everyone going round trying to unravel things retrospectively."

The case was brought to court after the defendant chased it up himself. 

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID: “Weapons in the streets of Britain are at a record level and are causing a great deal of criminality and a great deal of stress.
