THE M56 was closed westbound this morning after a car overturned.
The serious accident involving several vehicles happened between junction six at Hale and junction seven at Bowdon, with traffic queueing for three miles back to Baguley.
Traffic has been blocked since 5.30am, and two lanes were also closed on the eastbound carriageway as the car overturned onto the central reservation.
Delays of around 40 minutes are reported back to junction nine at Lymm, but the eastbound carriageway fully reopened at around 7.45am.
Three lanes of the M56 westbound remain shut at present, causing queues of around 80 minutes.
