FIREFIGHTERS will be rolling up their sleeves for a charity car wash this weekend.

Birchwood’s Fire Station on Ordnance Avenue will host the car wash on Saturday from 10am to 4pm in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity.

Drivers will be able to bring their vehicle to the station to be thoroughly cleaned in return for a donation.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides services that enhance quality of life to serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.

North west chair of The Fire Fighters Charity and assistant chief fire officer Gus O’Rourke said: "Car wash events are a fantastic way to engage with the community while at the same time raising money for a great charity.

"It is always a fun and popular day for firefighters and people always leave with a clean car and an increased awareness of how to stay safe on the roads.

"I would encourage the public to come along knowing their donation will go towards helping serving and retired firefighters and their families during their time of need."

Watch Manager Stuart Plaskett, who is The Firefighters Charity co-ordinator for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Although this is about raising money for a charity which provides so much vital support for sick and injured firefighters and their families, it is also a day of fun and enjoyment.

"It is a popular event and firefighters enjoy speaking to the public who always give generous donations and this year we want to build on that and encourage more people to come along."
