RESIDENTS at a Winwick care home were given the opportunity to relive their youth during a special bike ride.

The activity was organised by Magic Moments staff, who visited St Oswald’s House Care Home and brought with them a range of bicycles adapted especially for the pensioners to enjoy.

This gave a number of residents at the Golborne Road site – which was rated as good by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection back in April this year – the chance to experience the joys of riding a bike once again, showing how age alone does not have to hold any of us back.

Each of the senior citizen cyclists was able to take their adapted bike on a spin around the care home’s car park and 'felt the wind in their hair', assisted by their support workers.

And the event was very much appreciated, not only by the elderly participants – who had smiles on their faces for the rest of the afternoon – but also by the other residents who came out to watch the spectacle.

It is now hoped that the Magic Moments team will return with their bikes at some point in the future.

A spokesperson for St Oswald’s House Care Home, which is run by national operator Brighter Kind and currently provides personal and nursing care for around 40 residents, said: “Our residents had a lovely day riding the bikes around our car park.

“They were able to feel the wind in their hair, and both residents and staff alike look forward to the return of the Magic Moments team and the bikes.”
