A COMMUNITY theatre group is hoping to build on its thousands of pounds donated to charity with a forthcoming production of Chicago.

Curtain Call Productions will bring 1920s Illinois to The Grange Theatre from September 24 to 28 – back where it all began.

The community not-for-profit theatre company started in Hartford with Hairspray a decade ago.

Theatre manager Paul Edwards said: “We are delighted to have them back with us to celebrate their 10th year.

“Their shows are amazing and anyone who has seen Curtain Call perform before, will not be disappointed.”

Chicago is a dazzling and satirical look at fame, justice, and the media machine.

Northwich Guardian:

Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials, it follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudeville star who murders her lover and is arrested, despite her attempts to convince her pushover husband, Amos, to lie for her.

In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her idol, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly.

Chicago is a musical spectacular that is as addictive as gossip rags and as unforgettable as any trial of the century.

The cast are from the community and are working hard in their spare time to put on the show.

There will be an exit collection for Cancer Research.

Producer Gail Montague said: “So far Curtain Call Productions have raised £36,000 for Cancer research, so let’s help them make it to £40,000 by your kind donations for a cause which has touched us all in some way or another.”

Shows are 7.30pm. Directed and choreographed by Joel Montague with musical direction by Michael J Scott.
