THESE beautiful postcards of St Helens in bygone times have been sent in by Star reader Sheila King.

Sheila, who lives in Allerton, Liverpool, was only 16 when she received the postcards from her grandmother in the 1950s.

Sheila said: “I got these postcards from my gran when she died.

St Helens Star:

“I was 16 years old then and I’m 81 now, so you can see how long I have had them.

“I hope you and your readers enjoy looking at them.”

Among the scenes featured in the postcards are Taylor Park and Victoria Park.

St Helens Star:

There are also views of St Mary’s Lowe House Church, St Helens Town Hall, Church Street and Baldwin Street.

They also show the site of St Bartholemew’s Church in Rainhill, which was known as Bretherton Folly.

The cards were produced by Valentine & Sons Ltd, Dundee and London.
