A HUGE undertaking to transform children’s play facilities in Moulton is reaping rewards, with families now enjoying the new equipment.
The project at the Jubilee playing fields in Main Road was overseen by Moulton Parish Council, which garnered opinion from the village’s younger residents through a consultation to ensure there was something for everyone.
Now complete, the new-look play area includes swings, slides, and even a fitness course to promote healthy activity.
Accessible for all abilities, the wide-ranging facilities were funded by section 106 developers’ contributions.
Parish council member Cllr Angela Capstick said that, despite the best efforts of the Great British weather, the village’s plans had come to fruition.
Cllr Capstick said: “It was a big project.
“We have been hampered by the weather – as soon as the contractors went in we had two weeks of torrential rain and it’s been a problem all summer.”
With an initial estimated finish around Easter, the project was pushed back by frequent rain and opened in stages over the summer holidays.
Cllr Capstick said: “The parish council held a consultation with the youth of the community to get their ‘wishlist’. Although not everything off the list could be achieved, we created a specification for providers.

The designs were shortlisted by the council into a final three, which were assessed against the specification, costs and overall appearance before Massey & Harris of Stockport’s design was selected.
Cllr Capstick added: “The project was expanded to promote play around the village with games tables in a number of locations as well as on the park.”
A competition was held with children of the village invited to name the ‘pirate’ and ‘friendly’ ship, and design a flag for each.
Winners will be unveiling their ship’s name plaque at the official opening of the park and Weaver Road Play area.
