A NORTHWICH singing teacher has landed the lead role in a forthcoming Knutsford Musical Theatre Company production.

Heather Baker, owner and director of Northwich Pop Choir, will tread the boards as Oda Mae Brown in the critically-acclaimed musical Ghost in October.

The choir leader began performing as a child, and her first professional performance came at the age of 10 in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat alongside Philip Schofield.

She then branched out into teaching singing and set up Northwich Pop Choir in 2010. The choir attracts more than 90 members from across mid Cheshire.

KMTC – one of the very few theatre groups in the UK to be given the performing rights to Ghost the musical – stages two productions a year at Northwich Memorial Court.

Ghost will feature special magical effects and a video to tell the story.

Director Ben Ireson said: “This is technically one of the most complicated shows we have staged, but I am excited by some of the magic and tricks we have throughout the production."

Oda Mae Brown was originally played by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1990 film classic.

Heather said: “She’s loud, in your face and very comical and I’m looking forward to getting back into performing again with this iconic character.”

Performances of Ghost will take place at 7.30pm from October 23 to 26, with a matinee performance at 2pm on October 26 at Northwich Memorial Court.
