RESIDENTS at a ladies residential home have celebrated their carer's wedding by throwing her a hen party.

More than 20 women at Heathfield Ladies Residential Home held a party complete with decorations, cake and quizzes for carer Noreen Flaherty, who is getting married next week.

The home, found in Alexandra Road, Grappenhall, has 24 residents and is rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

Noreen, who has been a carer at the home for two years, said: "The hen party has got everybody together reminiscing about their own wedding days.

"They are excited- they keep telling me 'it's not long now!'"

Joan Peace, who was born in 1933, is originally from Yorkshire and became a resident at the home last year.

She said Heathfield enjoys any excuse for bringing people together for a party.

As part of the day, residents shared stories and photographs from their weddings and Joan remembered getting married when she was 21 years old.

She recalled: "My wedding day was nothing like they are now.

"We had new clothes and it was mainly family.

"Now people invite their work colleagues but it wasn't like that then."

Heathfield offers residential care, dementia care or respite and day care with an open door policy for friends and family of residents.
