THE English Half Marathon may be off, but there is plenty to do in Warrington this weekend.

From nostalgia to markets and shows to open days, we have picked out a selection of events taking place in the town on Saturday and Sunday.

HUNGARIAN MARKET > WARRINGTON MARKET > SATURDAY

Warrington Guardian:

All the tastes of Budapest will be coming to Warrington for one day only when a pop-up Hungarian Market comes to the town.

The event is the result of a collaboration between Warrington Market, Hungarian Sausage grocery shop and Cheshire Chimney Cake and will also see live music, folk dance and Hungarian crafts on Saturday from 10am.

You will be able to try authentic goulash, which is one of Hungary’s national dishes, as well as langos which is one of the country’s most popular street food dishes, at the festival which takes place at Warrington Market.

It is a type of fried bread, sometimes called Hungarian pizza, that is usually topped with sour cream and cheese.

WARRINGTON POLICE MUSEUM OPEN DAY > SATURDAY

Warrington Guardian:

WARRINGTON Museum of Policing will host a free family fun day this weekend.

The museum, based at Warrington Police Station on Arpley Street, will open its doors from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.

Free activities include museum tours, demonstration from drugs dogs, a display of police vehicles, exhibitions and a chance to meet policing teams.

REOPENING OF WARRINGTON MUSEUM AND LIBRARY > SATURDAY 

Warrington Guardian:

Celebrations will begin outside the Museum Street entrance with speeches at 9.45am before the official cutting of the ribbon at 10am. 

Visitors can then enjoy a performance from Priestley College students and Warrington choreographer Kate Jackson, who has recently returned from performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. 

Other events include poetry readings, choir performances, dance workshops and also a talk from artist Pip Woolf, whose fascinating exhibition Matter of Identity can be seen on display at the museum.

Visitors can also expect a space invasion from Storm Troopers of the 99th Garrison, as well as the chance to take part in a social media treasure hunt.

HATTON SHOW > SATURDAY

Warrington Guardian: Crowds come out for Hatton Show

Hatton Show is back for another year, boasting a whole host of family-friendly activities. 
On Saturday4, festivities will reach Warrington with a horse show, horticultural show and pet show among the activities on offer. 
The Hatton and District Show Society host the annual event which is always held on the second Saturday in September in a field in Daresbury.

BURTONWOOD NOSTALGIA WEEKEND > SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Warrington Guardian: RAF Burtonwood

Commemorate the personnel who were stationed at RAF Burtonwood from 1940 - 1993.

This special event is a great way to learn about life on the base and enjoy a fantastic range of attractions.

From classic cars to stylish vintage stalls, don't miss out on this fascinating weekend! Tickets are £3 per person or £10 for a family of four.

Check out  military vehicles, living history groups and enjoy music and dancing too.

BATTLE OF BRITAIN SERVICE > ST ELPHIN'S > SUNDAY

Warrington Guardian: St Elphin's Parish Church

A BATTLE of Britain anniversary service takes place at St Elphin’s on Sunday.

Starting at 3pm, the 1330 Squadron Royal Air Force cadets host the service at the parish church.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

HERITAGE WEEKEND > VARIOUS VENUES AND DATES

Warrington Guardian:

Free events take place across Warrington over the next week, starting this weekend.

Tour Warrington Museum of Freemasonry’s exhibition of Masonic glassware ceramics, textiles and regalia from 18th century to present, with a unique opportunity to see Freemasons in their regalia in a working lodge.

Visit Cairo Street Chapel, the earliest dissenting chapel in Warrington. Saturday between 10am-4pm and Sunday from 10am-2pm, followed by Academy Service at 3pm.
