THE M6 was closed this afternoon after an accident involving three lorries.
Delays of nearly an hour-and-a-half are reported on the northbound carriageway between junction 21 at Woolston and junction 21a at Croft following the crash, which occured at around 3pm.
Police and paramedics are on the scene while traffic officers are working to contain a fuel spillage.
Four fire engines have attended the incident, and crews are attempting to free a lorry driver trapped in his HGV.
While the motorway was previously shut completely, one lane was reopened shortly after 4pm - with queues are reported back to junction 19 at Knutsford.
Warrington's road network is reportedly very busy ahead of rush hour as a result of the incident.
The southbound carriageway was also temporarily shut to allow the air ambulance to land on the motorway, but it has since reopened - although 35-minute queues remain back to junction 23 at Haydock.
A man in his 60s is currently being treated at the scene, with two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle present.

One lane of the southbound exit slip road at junction 22 at Newton-le-Willows is also closed due to a broken down vehicle.
